Inspired to creating my own web directory

Currently I still developing my own web directory using Drupal CMS, and this gonna be a paid directory with an annual fee model, even I am not close the possibility to receive a free submission also.

For the directory format I will not just creating a category similar with any regular web directory out there but I will provide a profile also for any website / company listed.

Still confused to choose the best name for it, and yesterday I buy Webfied.com to increase my domain arsenal.

I see today there are a changes in some of my sites PageRank, and I can confirm if in February 2012 Google has updated their PageRank again. Check your site for sure.

Drupal 6.24 and Drupal 7.12 released!

In early February, the Drupal community has released the latest version of Drupal 6.x and Drupal 7.x, Drupal 6.24 and Drupal 7.12.

This time, there are two versions of each version of Drupal 6.x and Drupal 7.x. For Drupal 6.x, version 6.23 intended to improve the security and 6.24 version is to fix bugs, likewise with Drupal 7.x, version 7.11 is for security fixes and version 7.12 is for bugs fixes.

Fix the "Read more" link in Drupal 7

Drupal 7 has limitations that can be fairly funny, the "Read more" link always appears in the "Teaser" although the "Teaser" content is already the entire contents of the article, this problem does not exist in Drupal 6.

To fix this I simply use the template.php and make the function as follows:

  $node = $variables['node'];

Note:

Replace the word template on template_preprocess_node with the name of your theme.
On unset ($ variables ['content'] ['link'] ['nodes']['# links'] ['node-readmore']); is one line. I press enter because of limited space in my blog.

At least this solution can be used for a while and waiting for the problem is fixed in Drupal 7.

Danland development in 2012

Almost one year I was busy with my office works and my personal business so that the developments of my project at Drupal.org such as the Danland theme is very slow. And lately I deliberately took the time to add new features to Danland, the Color Module support.

With this new feature you can change the color for almost all of the theme parts, such as the body background, block color, text and link color, or any other theme parts.

Note: this feature will only available in Danland 7.x.

On September 13, 2011, I wrote if XPS Annotator reaching the 80K milestone, and now XPS Annotator already reaching the 90K of download on CNET.

With so many download than XPS Annotator can be categorized as a successful software, I receive many good feedback about this software.

Danland used by 14646 sites

Til today, Danland already used by 14646 of Drupal sites worldwide, and in one or two weeks later, predicted if Danland will reach the 15K milestone.

The latest commit to the repository is about two weeks ago when I add the Slideshow region to Danland 6.x. Danland become popular because of its simplicity so I will not change it too much.

Zynga using Drupal

Zynga, I am familiar with this company when I played one game made by them "Mafia Wars". And if you are fans of the "FarmVille" it has been ascertained that you are also familiar with this company.

A few weeks ago I wrote if X.commerce is using Drupal, and now turns Zynga who switched to using Drupal for their main website.

PageRank Update November 2011

On Monday 7th November 2011, Google has updated its pagerank as predicted by many people if there will be a PageRank update in November. PageRank for this blog has not changed is still PageRank 8, but there are some changes on all of my website.

PageRank of my danetsoft.com be 8 again, while my other sites like xpsdev.com, dic.im and javaner.com become a PageRank 7 after previously only had a PageRank 6.

Drupal 7.9 released!

Drupal community released Drupal 7.9, the latest release is mainly to fix bugs found in the OpenID and some other small bugs. Apart from bug fixes there are also several additional new features, read the release note for more information about this release.

The last release was on 1 September 2011 and version 7.9 is almost two months later, it is recommended to upgrade your site to Drupal 7 so it will be easier for you to maintain your site in the future.

PayPal and eBay using Drupal

After previously Twitter using Drupal now X.commerce which is the developer community of PayPal, eBay and Magento also using Drupal and follow many companies that have previously been using Drupal for their developer community site like Symantec or DivX.

Drupal is the right choice if you want a large-scale sites and not just a blog. Congratulations to the Drupal community.

Is Backlinks and PR still important?

With many development carried out by Google on his algorithm in order to rank a site in the Search Engine Result Page (SERP) with more accurate, then a lot of speculation about how Google rank a site these days.

Examples of such speculation is that the backlinks and PR is not important anymore, or linking is not a factor and only On Page Optimization is the factor. But is it all true? and I think an answers that can be trusted is the answer from Google's own employees.

Danland and Metropolis usage statistics

Finally Danland is on top four and currently used by 11.852 sites, with the number of users that much then Danland already passed the number of users of the Acquia Marina with 11.335 users.

The increase was also experienced by the Metropolis theme that has reached more than 900 users. This is a pretty good achievement, judging from its release time is not quite two years for Danland while for the Metropolis was released about four months ago.

I still remember that at first I only target to pass through Acquia Slate but in fact Danland exceeding my initial expectations.

Drupal 7.8 released and available for download worldwide. The Drupal 7.8 is a maintenance release that contains many bug fixes, and no security fixes or new feature added.

There is an important note if you are upgrading the Drupal 6 installation to Drupal 7.7 but using the multilingual sites feature, you will find if the node bodies displayed as empty, read this page to know the story. And this issue already fixed in version 7.8.

Create your first Drupal module using a module building helper

Today I found an interesting Drupal module, Module Builder. This module will generates a skeleton for a module with hints on how to fill it, very useful for a newbie and seasoned developers to learn how Drupal hooks work.

Below are the feature of the Module Builder:

Provide a sample standard hook function declarations and a default module header.
Saves your times to remember what arguments and what order different hooks use.
The module will automatically selects any hooks based on your needs.
Option allows you to turn on and off informative comments.
Automatically parses available hook names.

This module sound very promising, if you have a busy time so do not have much time to read Drupal documentations than this module are worthy to try.

Metropolis through a psychological phase

As a new theme, Metropolis has been through a psychological phase in which users had exceeded 500 sites. From here can be assessed if the theme gets a good response from the Drupal community.

The number of users of these theme are experiencing a steady increase, in a few weeks longer expected to reach 1000 users or more.

Let's look at the development of this new theme in the next few weeks, if the users can exceeds 1000 sites, it stands to reason that the theme is potential enough.

How do I increase my PageRank from 0 to 8 easily?

I am writing this because I ever promised to share how I raise the PageRank of my blog easily from 0 to 8 for www.danpros.com, or from 0 to 6 for www.javaner.com that was still less than two weeks old.

PageRank 8 is a level difficult to achieve, if you rely solely on the blog article you must be the same level with www.engadget.com, www.techcrunch.com, or www.mashable.com who always provide the latest news and quality information, so many other sites and blogs gives a link on a voluntary basis, and it must take a long time and spend no small amount of money.

As a newbie I did something slightly different to increase the Google PageRank of my website, here are some things I do:

Writing content that is unique (though rarely updated).
Make a popular free theme for getting backlinks.

From the two points above the most difficult is to make a popular free theme. Creating a theme is my job so gained a high Google PageRank is just a bonus.
