XPS Annotator does not yet support 64-bit OS

Many users of the XPS Annotator ask me about problems they encounter when installing the XPS Annotator in 64-bit operating system.

That problem arises because for now the XPS Annotator not support 64-bit operating system. XPS Annotator will not working like it should be if installed on 64 bit operating system.

Danland is in top fifteen

Danland is in top fifteen at Drupal.org themes directory!

Nice move for Danland. After five months of acting, eventually Danland now starting to be accepted by the Drupal community, though not yet include features such as theme settings or color module.

Until now the user of Danland is more than 2300 sites, and continues to increase each week. I'll report back if there is a significant change to Danland.

Thanks for link back to me

In each theme I make, I always give a signature in the form of links to my websites. I do not require you to leave these links, it is voluntary and you are free to remove it in your website.

I am grateful for those who leave these links, or at least you leave one link to my website. Because with this links, then people get to know who made the theme and people will know the services I provide.

You can modify the links so that according to your website.

Now Danland located on the first page

Danland was released about four months ago, but now on the first page at Drupal.org themes directory. Not bad for a newcomer, right? :)

Until when this article was written, Danland been used more than 1800 sites. But this calculation is not one hundred percent correct because this is only calculated for sites that turn-on the Update Status module, so the users of the theme must be more than that.

Danland seem to have the possibility to compete with popular themes like Acquia Marina / Slate, Marinelli, Zero Point, Sky, Pixture Reloaded etc. When viewed from the age it could happen, however the popularity of Danland could have stopped at this level.

Let's see the development for the next few months.

Great! I got (fake) PageRank 8

A few days ago there was something quite startling, I got a PageRank 8 for one of my site. This happened after my hosting do maintenance on their servers, and my website can not be accessed during one to two days.

Looks like when the site could not be accessed, the Google's spiders redirected to a site that has a high PageRank. In a few days or weeks would all go back to normal PageRank again.

Updated on July 3th: after asking reconsideration to Google my site are back to normal again. But finally I got a valid Pagerank 8 for my blog, read this for more information.

Become a freelance Drupal developer and themer

I think my decision to become a freelance Drupal developer and themer about one month ago is very timely decision. There are two kinds of rates that I charge to my clients, hourly rate and fixed rate.

For hourly rate, I charged when a client requires only small things like adding or fixing the CSS, create a simple form and others small things. My current hourly rates is $??, contact me for info regarding this :). For fixed rate, I switch to this kind of rate type when my clients need a big projects, yes like creating a custom theme, creating a site etc.

Currently I still restrict my availability every day because there was one project (custom Drupal theme) which is still under developments, almost finished just need some touches. Currently I only received one to two hours per day, my time is very limited now :)

For custom themes, I only accept a theme that the budget is $1000+, just contact me first for my availability and I will set how many days I could start your project.

Free software developer vs. Drupal developer and themer

The best place to promote your capabilities as a Drupal developer and themer is at Drupal.org. Yes, maybe it was irrelevant to make money from open source software such as Drupal, but what we sell is our time.

We get paid to create a custom module, custom theme or creating a site and it requires quite a long time depending on how hard would it, and time is money right? :)

If calculated, more profitable to make a theme or a Drupal website instead of making free software that I have done in the past. I have a free software that has quite a lot of users but only a few people who want to donate.

That is why I am now also elaborates Drupal. Of course I also still pursue the software development, but for now I am relying on Drupal to make money.

I finally decided to try Google Adsense

A few days ago I finally decided to try to put Google Adsense on some of my sites. Curious because Google Adsense is one opportunity to earn income on the internet, so at least I can learn how it works.

For installation is very easy, we just simply paste the code supplied by Google. The most difficult is to get enough traffic, so the possibility of visitors clicking on ads on our website will be greater.

XPS Annotator is more Sharepoint friendly

I found an interesting facts related to the XPS document on Sharepoint, you can read the issue here. He is using Microsoft XPS Viewer to open and digitally signs an XPS document but he found the following facts:
  • XPS documents are not signed while the signing process has been done before.
  • The XPS document is locked on a server.
  • All document properties (metadata) are set to its default values.
He assumed that this was because Microsoft XPS viewer uses XPS document location for its temporary files, while updating the document it creates at least two temporary files in Sharepoint library, thus resulting in problems such as above.

But when he used the XPS Annotator, he did not experience such problems like when he used the Microsoft XPS Viewer. So can be concluded that currently the XPS Annotator is more Sharepoint friendly.

My new business

After preparing for two and three months, now Danetsoft finally been able to provide services such as custom design and web development for Drupal. And to further convince the new client, I created a few themes that can be used free of charge at Drupal.org.

The development of my new business is quite exciting, just a few weeks of opening, now I already have several new clients. Many positive effects that I get after contributing on Drupal.org, for example is getting a free backlinks.

Believe it or not, but now my website is getting backlinks around 28 thousand and growing every day, I got these backlinks takes approximately 10 weeks. Yes, until now the most powerful ways to get lot of backlinks in a short time is sponsoring or creating a free theme.

Whether you need a custom design for your Drupal website? lets talk..

2000 USD for custom Drupal theme

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to create custom themes for Drupal with worth 2000 USD. A hefty price for making a theme only, for the design of these themes has been prepared by my client in the form of PSD files.

I accepted the offer at a cheap price because in the days to come it seems we have decided to become a partner, why I said cheap? because the design desired by my clients is quite complicated, of course this is a consequence should I receive to acquire new partners.

Custom themes for Drupal is still very expensive compared with themes from another CMS. Especially when our clients want a theme that is truly unique and a lot of detail work to do.

My networks

Currently I manage multiple websites simultaneously, yes all of the website is a tool that I use for promoting the software I have created. Indeed not all of it is a tool of promotion, there is one website which is a reminder tool. Reminder tool? What does this mean? From the record everything booked, I prefer to record everything on the website.

Below are websites that until today still managed by me:
  • Danetsoft: The center of all the business that I run on the internet. From software to web development services.
  • XPSDev: The official website of my free software, XPS Annotator. I decided to make this website because XPS Annotator is increasingly popular, so be wise if I create a website that a specially talking about the XPS Annotator.
  • DanPros.com: My personal website. Read the danpros word mean.

Danland Drupal theme

Danland is my third theme that I contributed to Drupal.org, and when this article was created, Danland is the most popular theme I have ever made. Danland was inspired by one of website design by Maksimer.

At first release, Danland not include features such as image slideshow, superfish menu and pngFix. And at the next versions, I integrate the jQuery plugins to add functionality to Danland.

In less than two months, Danland already used more than 1000 websites. Here are the features of Danland:
  • 1, 2 or 3 column layout
  • Tableless design for SEO
  • 17 collapsible block regions
  • Superfish drop-down menu (2, 3 or more nested levels)
  • Built-in image slideshow (the frontpage wide image banner)

  • Primary links and secondary links
  • Supports custom logo and favicon
  • Support features like site name, slogan, mission.
  • Custom login and logout
  • Heading H1 optimization for SEO

Split XPS Merge is hijacked

As a software developer, is a regular thing if the software we've made were hijacked by irresponsible people. This happened on my latest software, Split XPS Merge.

Of course there are disappointment feelings, but it is a consequence of the work I do now. I know this fact approximately one week after the software was released, though the price of the Split XPS Merge only $ 24.9.

I can not imagine how the losses suffered by Adobe or Microsoft because of piracy, which would exceed the number of millions of dollars.

My first commercial software

Here I am talking about the Split XPS Merge, this application is designed to split and merge multiple XPS document. Actually this is an application that is in Danet Studio, the application is Danet Merger.

I just released a demo version of this application, the Danet Studio price is 49 USD per license and because the application is actually also part of Danet Studio so I just peg the price of $ 24.9.

This is the perfect solution if you just want an app that has ability to separate and combine any XPS document, without having to pay 49 USD.

Viewer for XPS document format

I know the XPS document format in early-2008, I really like tinkering with my computer and accidentally found XPSViewer.exe. I was intrigued and immediately clicking on the .exe file, but nothing happened, why?

Out of curiosity, then looked on the internet and found the answers I was looking for. That is the story of how I know the XPS document format :)

In early January 2009, I released Danet Studio. Danet Studio is a compilation of various kinds of software that is built using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and my first app include a viewer to open XPS format, the name of the viewer is Danet Viewer.

And in March 2009, I decided to make a different version of the Danet Viewer and separate it from Danet Studio, and I give it name XPS Annotator.

In addition to view an XPS format, my XPS Viewer has many other functions:
  • Provide you ability to annotate XPS documents.
  • Can digitally signed your XPS documents for security reason.
  • The viewer can adding document properties into any XPS documents.
  • Ability to convert XPS document into image files.
Visit the XPS Annotator official site if you interested with the software.

64-bit version of Danet Studio

Yesterday there was one of my clients send me an e-mail related to the error in one module of Danet Studio, here is the email he sent:

I'm using Danet Studio 2.03 Pro, to merge some (large, total size around 45MB) XPS documents created from the Windows XPS Document Writer, and Danet Merger is crashing when trying to open these files. The process was taking over 4GB of memory! Something is very wrong here. I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit (Home Premium ver), on a Core i7 computer with 6GB of memory.

Actually it is not an error in Danet Studio itself, but for now Danet Studio does not yet support 64-bit operating system. And the solution I provide is to install a virtual machine on his computer like Microsoft Virtual PC, VMWare or Sun's Virtual Box.

The days-future, I will try to make 64-bit versions of all my software. Hopefully I can get the equipment to make it soon became a reality, because my current development environment only support for 32-bit operating system. :)

The word danpros mean

What does the word danpros mean? the word danpros is actually a composite of several parts of my name:
  • Danang -> dan
  • Probo -> pro
  • Sayekti -> s
And this word is very appropriate to be used as the name of my personal website.

In addition the word danpros can also be separated into two word "Dan Pros", and can be interpret as the positive aspects of Dan.

So the above explanation is why I gave the name of my personal website with a danpros word, and I'm lucky because no one registering this great domain name before.

Anyway, welcome to danpros.com!

I'm move to Blogger

For easy to maintain it, I move my personal website to Blogger.

I have a blogspot address before and decided to point my custom domain into it and integrated the Google Apps within my domain. No need thinking about hosting etc., just creating new post and spread the word.

Welcome to my new website..
